On Wednesday, we woke up to sunny skies and birdsong. We had rested enough and were ready to do some siteseeing, hiking, and
beaching (I'm not sure that's a word, but it fits the pattern I'm working with :)
The Viks had given us some great ideas on where to start so we headed out for a day at
Cornucopia, Wisconsin. This location is very picturesque and away from it all so we felt we had some privacy in our pasttime.

Once we found the entrance to the
hiking trail, we set off ready for adventure...but not so ready for the mud that was everywhere. Much of the hike is uphill, so the mud made walking treacherous as well as messy. Since it poured the day before, we should have expected muddy trails, but we just didn't think that far ahead. But we trudged on anyway. I told the kids not to worry about getting anything muddy as we are all washable! It did take a bit longer to hike around the normal trail trying to avoid large puddles of water and deep mud holes, but the view at the top of the trail was well worth the extra effort.

The trail itself was fun as there were hills to climb, streams to cross, and narrow pathways to navigate...mainly due to the mud. The trail is well marked and would have been fairly easy if not for the slippery factor!
One funny~as we came to the first stream, Jeff admonished the kids to stay on the rocks to keep their shoes dry. Just as he was about to make the final leap to dry ground, his back foot slipped right into the water. We all got a good chuckle from the irony!
Gracia had the joy of riding on our hikes. Kezia took her up the hill and Tirzah brought her back down. She liked the ride so much she fell asleep and the kids fought over who would get to carry her next. Very different from when they were all little and Jeff and I had to each carry one in a pack and hold hands with the others! :)
We grabbed a snack and then made our way to the Cornucopia beach. Just getting there was picturesque and I feel a special longing to return whenever I view this picture.
We set up camp with Gracia in the playpen, a couple of lawn/beach chairs, and towels everywhere. The kids proceeded to play in the water, build sand creations, play catch with the football and frisbee, and read/nap on the beach. The whole afternoon was just relaxing and the couldn't have been more perfect. We have had very few vacations where everyone enjoyed everything we did, but this trip appealed to all ages.

I even remembered to have someone take some pictures of me for a change. Many of our past vacations, a person might wonder if I was even along as there is a severe shortage of photographic evidence, but again, since my kids are older, they can take photos now too and I am appearing more and more our photobooks!
Our day ended with the kids back at the house and Jeff and I going out to eat with our friends, The Viks. It was a great way to top off the day.
Surprised and Amazed at all the ways we live, love, and laugh,
Lori
