Click Here to find out more about Ruby Shoes Co. |
Last June was the first time I attended the Camp Shetek Ladies Event. I really had no idea what to expect, but we had a great time. The weather was gorgeous if a little chilly down by the lake, but the scattering of clouds made for a beautiful sunset. There was delicious food, great fellowship and speakers who encouraged women to get into the Word of God to grow our relationship with God.
One of the speakers, Colleen from Ruby Shoes Co. shared the story of Ruby Shoes Co. which you can read here, and went on to share testimonies of encouragement from those who have received the cards. She also shared how different women have used the cards to encourage others. Colleen had a table set up in the back of the room and I took a few moments to peruse the beautiful cards with fancy red shoes. The Ruby Shoes Co. has a number of beautiful designs and each set brought a smile simply by being not only precious to look upon, but fun. Each design made me smile. As I looked through the many options, Colleen asked where I was from and if I enjoyed writing. We talked a bit about her ministry and as I prepared to leave, she handed me a box of cards, and said, "Here. I want you to have these. Just promise me you will use them."
I took them and thanked her profusely. Her generosity reminded me that she believed firmly in the ministry of her company: to encourage women through written words.
Well, I have had those beautiful cards sitting on my kitchen counter for six months and finally figured out how to use them. Now I could have used them individually to encourage friends or family one on one. Or I could have sent all of the to one person myself...encouraging them throughout a particular time of struggle or throughout the year. Colleen gives other ideas on how to use the cards on the Ruby Shoes Blog.
Instead, I shared them with the Lydia Ladies, many of whom had attended the Ladies Event with me, and we wrote a note of encouragement to one of our number who has moved and is experiencing a challenging time. In this way, she gets a number of cards from all those who miss her and whom she misses. This project gave me a number of other ideas on how to use cards in our Women's Group, Lydia Ladies. I am so thankful Colleen gave me the cards and I look forward to buying more cards and encouraging my friends and family with these lovely cards.
Just another Secret from the Life of a Pastor's Wife,
Lori

I love how you shared the cards. I agree a handwritten note is the best.
Thanks for sharing.
